Farm or washing station: Harosema Village, Guji
Gizaw Alemayehu’s coffee journey is rooted in his father, who cultivated expansive coffee farms in Yirgacheffe until they were nationalised in 1974. As farm ownership became uncertain under the new socialist policies, Gizaw and his wife, Frehiwot, chose a different path, turning to coffee processing and supply under their flagship Gizaw washing station.
Today, they works with local producers who carefully handpick cherries from Dimitu and Harosema village. Only ripe cherries are selected before being meticulously sorted by density. During drying, the cherries are regularly turned and shaded through the hottest part of the day, helping ensure an even and consistent result. Over 20–28 days, they gradually reach an ideal moisture content of 11.5%.
Coffees from the Guji region are prized for their fragrant stone fruit aromas, caramel sweetness and sparkling acidity. This lot is a perfect representation of these qualities and makes for a fantastic cup as a lively filter or refreshing espresso.
Tasting Notes: Well balanced, with notes of spiced peach crumble and caramel with zesty orange acidity.
